The Jack O’ Lantern Project 2010

Last year I discovered the Halloween Countdown and swore to myself that in 2010 I’d participate. At some point in recent memory, I also saw a fellow artist who posted a skull a day for a month. So, for my Halloween countdown, my daughter Ripley (8) and I are going to come up with and post at least one Jack O’ Lantern a day, every day in October. We’re going to be as creative as we can, and we’ll see what we come up with. Last night’s M & M’s were the beginning; tonight Ripley and I watched “Hocus Pocus” and painted these awesome paper mache masks we found at our local Michael’s:

Ripley painted two; I painted one.

New Painting : The Cornish Litany

Cornish litany postcards  are sometimes called by other names – Devon Litany, West Country Litany, Scottish Litany – but they all have the following text (or slight variations) in common:

From Ghoulies and ghosties
And long legetty beasties
And things that go bump in the night
Good Lord deliver us!

I was hired to paint a modern interpretation at actual postcard size – 4″ x 6″. This is it!

The Cornish Litany

Artistic Interpretation

Doug Haffner, an artist and sculptor, created this semi-sculpted 3D version of Jack the Reaper for his own amusement and was kind enough to share it:

Sculpted Jack the Reaper by Doug Haffner

NOTE: Doug made this for himself and isn’t trying to sell it, which is why it’s OK. Have you made something based on my artwork for your own amusement? I’d love to see it!

EXTRA NOTE: If you make something based on my artwork and attempt to profit from it, you suck. Period.
